In this video, Dr. Martha Hall which is a Board Certified Acupuncturist will explain and elaborate what is cupping, the different forms and its benefits.

According to Dr. Martha Hall, there are different forms of cupping. One is the Dry Cupping which is a suction cupping and it is great to use for hard-to-reach areas and it’s easier to manipulate than fire cupping.

Another one is the Wet Cupping, this is when the doctor prick the skin to bleed and then put the cup over that area.

And then there’s Fire Cupping where a cotton ball is lighted with alcohol and placed inside the cup to burn oxygen that creates a vacuum after the cup has been placed on the skin.

Cupping is used to treat pain pretty much anywhere in the body. It can loosen muscles, encourage blood flow, and sedate the nervous system which makes it an excellent treatment for high blood pressure.

“I got hit by a soccer ball really hard in the back of the head. A week later I got back into soccer and started playing like nothing”, statement of Dr. Hall’s patient.

Respiratory conditions are one of the most common disorders that cupping is used to relieve so it is great for colds, phlegm, cough and panting. Cupping is much like the inverse of massage, rather than applying pressure to muscles it uses a gentle pressure to pull them upward, and for most patients this is particularly relaxing and a relieving sensation.

Cups are normally left on the body for one to ten minutes that can be left in one area or they can be moved up and down the body which is called sliding cupping. It is where lotion is added so the cups moves easily and freely. The body may have marks left on it and those marks can last three to seven days but the rewards far outweigh the marks.

Cupping is becoming so mainstream that most liked to show off the marks but doctors encourage to keep those marks covered because the pores may be open. They don’t want wind to get in between the skin and the muscle layers and reverse all the healing that they did.

“She cares about you first before anything else. Dr. Martha is a great person, she’s a role model”, statement of Dr. Hall’s patient.
